When I think of January, I think of a fresh start. It’s almost refreshing to throw away the grit and grime (although I’m sure something good came out of 2018) of the past and start a blank canvas. I began this year with the thirty-one days of Proverbs study. It’s perfect because Proverbs has thirty-one chapters, and January has thirty-one days. If you haven’t started a study or you don’t know where to go next, you should turn your Bible to Proverbs! It’s never too late to start with the wonderful book of Proverbs jampacked full of golden nuggets of truth. Here is the thing about Proverbs: Proverbs doesn’t argue about basic spiritual and moral beliefs because it already assumes we hold them. Proverbs focuses on God and His character, work, and blessings, and how we can live close with Him. As I started this study in Proverbs, God began to reveal unto me that there is a huge difference between wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom is more that just knowing a lot (knowledge), it is a basic attitude that affects every aspect to life. God says in verse seven of chapter one in Proverbs that the fear of the Lord is the first step. We must trust Him. He must be the foundation for understanding the world around us, and for our attitudes and actions. Right now, I feel like my “Word of the year” is wisdom, because God has shown me such a vast difference in what I thought it was, versus what it actually is. In order to receive wisdom, I have to be willing to listen to the Lord, refusing to let pride stand in my way. To know wisdom and instruction, I must run to God’s Word and prayerfully ask Him to reveal to me His Word, His will, and His heart. I must discern the good and the evil in this world, and continually choose good. I know it’s only January, but I feel this fresh start has changed my heart. God is still working, friends. He’s waiting for us to blow off the dust from our Bibles and crack them open. To act on His Word, not just read it. The only way He will speak to us is if we decide to open His heart that He poured out to us within the pages of the Scripture. It is God-breathed, my friend. It is a love letter sent directly to you and I. It is God saying to you, “I care for you. That’s why I breathed my word into men and they penned it. I love you. This is my heart. Read it. Follow it. Obey it.” I pray that in this year, you open your Bible and you diligently seek. Not for what you want to find, but for what God has prepared for you. Because I knew what it was like to not know how to study the Bible and stay in it, I created a video just for you. In this video, you will find the reason you should get in the Bible, how to stay there, and multiple tips on studying.
