I started taking my walk with the Lord more seriously. Studying my Bible became a priority and tasks as simple as setting my Bible out the night before helped me immensely in my daily walk with the Lord. Prayer became a more regular thing, and it's literally like having a conversation with a friend, coming to Him with reverence and respect. Daily habits. Gradual things are what help you achieve your goals. Don't set unrealistic goals that you know you can't meet. You will be left feeling defeated. Give yourself some grace. So, it starts with the simple daily habits that set you up for your "big" goals. It's a gradual thing, not an overnight thing. Go into it trying, with a humble heart and a ready mind. Pray hard. Know that you won't have all the answers, and that growing, well, you will always be trying to grow. As a Christian, trying to be more Christ-like is always the goal. We will never be perfect in this fleshly body, but we can always try. There's room for improvement all the time. So on that note, let's get into this blogpost that I pray will help improve your daily habits and help you grow in your walk with the Lord. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." -1 Corinthians 15:58 |

setting aside the phone
Life is so busy. The world is literally buzzing day and night. Make it a point to set aside the phone. There's nothing wrong with that! Last week I unintentionally took break from all social media and I intend to do that more often. Sometimes it’s good to just back away and prioritize. I’ve been getting lots of writing done and dedicating more devotion to my school work. I’ve said it often recently, sometimes it’s good to unplug from a media that portrays so much dishonest perfection in a world full of imperfection. Take a step back and do some prioritizing in your life. What areas do you need to improve? Pick up your Bible instead or talk to God about what's on your heart!
Attending Church Regularly
Nothing will help you understand the Bible like assembling together with your church family. In fact, Hebrews 10:25 says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." As mentioned earlier, nothing's better than having Christ-motivating people surrounding you and praying with you. These are people who genuinely care for you. The Church works when each does their part. Showing up is a part of that!
Placing my Bible by my desk before bed
I've been doing this for about a year now. When I intentionally set my Bible on my desk of a night, the first thing I see in the morning is God's Word. When I see it, immediately the Holy Spirit directs me to it. If I don't start my day off with the Word of God and prayer, it's a wreck. Reading the Scriptures are a solid foundation to set my day upon and it directs how the rest of my day will go.
Guarding my Heart
Over the years as my priorities have changed and I've matured, I feel like who I watch and what I take in is important. As Christians, we need to be careful what we take in. The Bible tells us to guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23). One way to do this is by blocking tempting sites or unfollowing dishonest, ungodly people. Other things include: watching what music we listen to, what we read, watch, where we go. Allow your eyes to only see uplifting/Christ-like things. Some call it narrow minded, I call it guarding my heart. Ask yourself: What would Jesus do? I love writing Bible verses and quotes on index cards and placing them in random places. They're constant reminders of where my mind should be. Plus it's a good way to memorize verses!
Journals/sticky notes/Colorful Pens
Lastly, I have grown immensely with taking my notes. That includes colorful pens and highlighters for specific things, and a nice journal set aside for note-taking. I also like to add sticky page flags to mark passages that I like or have questions about. This is for my organization, but also for me to look back on when I might be struggling or have questions. I can honestly say that by taking notes and marking up my Bible, I find studying more fun! I've come to love soaking up God's Word. I've linked below some blogposts related to in depth studying of the Bible. Feel free to check them out!
