When I was younger, my sister and I used to “fight” about every little thing possible. It’s a sibling thing, right? I specifically remember one time, when we were both at my grandparent’s house and we seemed to argue at just about EVERYTHING that day. My Pappy (grandfather) sat us down and sang us the song Try a Little Kindness on his guitar. Looking back at that now, I appreciate those moments so much. It’s little reminders…reminders of how God wants us to be, and how us Christians should act. We should really stand out. The world has so much evil in it, and if we proclaim ourselves as Christians, we need to stand apart from that evil. Someone should be able to tell that there’s something different about you, by the way that you act, talk, or how you don’t partake of certain things. It all should add up. Being kind is the one that I really want to focus in on today. And if we’re “Christians” but yet, we still act like the rest of the world and never show kindness or love…does that make us a very good light to others?
I simply think that something as simple as a smile can go such a long way. So many people today don’t even know how to smile anymore. If you so much as wake up in the morning, that should put a smile on your face…because God has given you another chance at a new day! Men, be polite and open the door for ladies, women, say thank you in return. Little things like that, may not seem like much, but it’s a thoughtful and sweet gesture, because many people are in too big of a rush to care about anyone else. That sort of is what makes a person stand out to you…they went out of their way to help someone beside themselves. It’s not hard to be kind, at least it shouldn’t be. If you see an elderly person struggling with their groceries, help them. If your mom is cooking dinner, instead of sitting in your room…help her prepare a meal. If your grandma needs help cleaning, help her, because one day you might not have that chance anymore. You should always treat others the way that you want to be treated one day. Just like the song says (doing a little paraphrasing here), if you see someone on their Christian path, struggling or wavering the wrong way...Just simply show them love and show them how amazing God is. Tell them how that this world cannot compare to God and His awesomeness. It’s so easy to forget that many people struggle with their confidence about their appearance, tell someone that they’re beautiful. Show them the bible verse where God’s word says that you’re FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made! (Psalm 134:14). Something as simple as that can make someone’s day so much better. This world needs more kindness. The world needs more smiles. More encouraging leaders and helpful people. The world needs to see God THROUGH YOU and your actions! I encourage you, be more kind to others, and always treat them how you’d want to be treated. I challenge you…yes you! to do something that’s been brought up in this blogpost today. Whether it be inviting someone to church, helping with groceries or simply sweeping the house for your mom…it’s a step and it’s such a good habit to get into. There’s nothing bad about being kind, as a matter of fact…get addicted to being kind. I look forward to next Friday’s advice, from my heart to yours. Until next time… Keep Smiling, rosepetalsandfaith <3
