It's officially 2019!
I honestly cannot believe how fast time flies. It seems like just yesterday it was 2006 and I was just starting school. Now it's 2019 and I'm a senior. It makes you want to stop and take a deep breath just for a second.
Anyway, it's a new year. With that, comes so many resolutions, goals, and etc. I thought rather than set goals, I would focus on three core things I'm striving to work on this year. That way I give myself grace and time to develop these habits, rather than feel like a failure when I don't meet my goal at the end of the year. You see the difference?
Maybe you're finding out in this second week of January that you totally set unrealistic goals for yourself. That's okay! We all learn from our mistakes, right? So take this Monday, and whip out your journal. It's not too late to set yourself things to focus on. Remember to give yourself grace. Don't beat yourself up when it's looking like you can't focus. By the grace of God, you can do this! Remember, there's a difference between being physically exhausted and just being lazy. There's also a difference between goals and things to focus on. I pray you see that this year.
I'll share with you three things that I'm focusing on this year!
I pray your 2019 is full of laughter, dreams met, and prayer. ;)
This is one of the most common things people respond with when they're asked what their new year "resolutions" are. I realized last spring that I had the wrong idea of what fitness was. Being fit isn't about looking a certain way and restricting yourself of anything remotely sweet. It's truly about keeping up with the body God has given us. If God's given us two good working legs, we ought to praise Him with them by at least walking instead of laying back and not caring.
With that said, I began to understand that being fit involves moves that make your body feel good. As I said in the video below, I don't like running so I wouldn't run a 5K. But I do like cycling and lifting weights, so I involve those in my workouts! It's all about finding your rhythm, pace, and balance. So, this year I want to work on fitness with more fun workouts and yoga, which is always a wonderful type of exercise. ;)
Here's a New Year's Workout for You!
I've met and come to love this wonderful lady that goes to a church I visit often. Her prayer life truly astonishes me. No matter how many things are going on in her life, she's always finding room to pray for someone else. As I've seen that in her, I want that also. I desire to be a blessing to someone else just by simply saying, "I'm praying for you in this way..." And I believe it's possible. God talks to us through the Bible, and we communicate back to Him through prayer. Prayers aren't meant to be flippant, without meaning; Jesus proved that to us in the Garden of Gethsemane. I desire to draw closer to God in that way.
As many of you know, I've found a solid passion for writing. When God's calling is so evident, even when it sounds crazy to a girl who thought she'd never be serious about writing, it strikes a chord with your heart and priorities. I've finished my first novel and I'm almost finished with the second. The terrifying part to me now is the next step. The publishing process. Lord willing, when I graduate this year I will be taking courses to help guide me in the right direction. And I personally want to thank and address many of the writer friends that I have made in person and through social media that have helped me along the way. Your advice is appreciated more than words can say.
As my teacher Mr. McBride said, God's calling normally terrifies you. It scares you because so many people around you are watching and waiting for you to mess up. A huge percentage of teens never follow through with God's calling because they decide to settle for something a little less scary, a little less hard or something someone else wants them to do. Don't do that. God's calling for you is important. He's giving you the opportunity because yes, He knows you can handle it, but also because it plays an important part in His will and His Kingdom.
This year, Lord willing, I will put an effort into taking the next step because I strongly feel it's in the will of God. I pray I can be the light that I need to be through this crazy, yet absolutely thrilling process.
I pray more than anything else in this entire world, that 2019 finds you in the center of the will of God, because that's the safest place you could ever be.
