When I began to focus so much on what I didn't have, I lost sight of what I did have. This completely robbed me of my joy. The apostle Paul said he'd learned to be content in whatever state he was in (Phil 4:11). I wasn't content at one point in my life. I became miserable because I didn't have this one thing, because things weren't happening on my timeline. It was exhausting, the war that was going on inside of me. I was on my last straw, so to speak, when I read a study on gratitude by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth back in November. When it pointed me to the Truth in Philippians 4:6-7, my outlook on life changed completely. "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." |
